David Bowie fans have lost their minds after the Ziggy Stardust cover was shared by the late star’s social media team with reference to an announcement on March 21.

Bowie’s death from bowel cancer eight years ago, at the age of 69, left the pop world devastated.

On Monday, the superstar’s social media accounts all shared the same video of a zoom into a recreation of Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust album cover.

Fans were left reeling at the possibility of an announcement, as the clips – which had Starman playing in the background – displayed the date ’21 March 2024′.

The cryptic posts gave no further information as to what the date could mean – but some fans thought it may be related to the release of a limited vinyl ‘Waiting in the Sky (Before the Starman Came to Earth)’, which is due to come out on April 20.

Parlophone Records announced in January that the new album is taken from the Trident Studios quarter-inch stereo tapes dated December 15, 1971, created for what would become The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars album.

‘WHAT DOES THIS MEAN,’ one fan asked under the new social media posts, as people flocked to the comments to find out more information.

‘WHAT GOING ONNNN,’ someone wrote, while another fan said: ‘Incredibly confused but very excited.’

Excited at the prospect of the Bowie announcement, someone said: ‘YESSSS YESS I LOVE YOU BOWIE.’

Someone else asked: ‘I beg your finest pardon?’ while another asked for more details, adding: ‘Imma need another hint fren.’ (sic)

In reference to the upcoming holiday, another fan commented: ‘Instead of Jesus resurrecting from the dead for Easter does this mean David Bowie is?’

It comes after Gary Oldman revealed the last words his friend music superstar Bowie said to him before his death.

Bowie’s final utterance to Oldman was: ‘F*** off,’ Gary said in January.

Thankfully, the expletive was not directed at the actor, but at the struggles Bowie was facing with technology.

The pair would talk over Skype on Sundays before Bowie died in 2016.

But in their last chat, Bowie grew frustrated after it proved difficult to end the call.

Oldman said that the last thing that his friend said to him was ‘really actually, so wonderfully, David,’ when talking to The Drew Barrymore Show on CBS.

He said that as Bowie was clicking the button to disconnect the singer said ‘alright, talk to you next week’.

He then said ‘go away, go away’ before pressing the hang up button and saying ‘f*** off’.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Oldman commended his late friend for handling his sickness with ‘such dignity and grace and humour’.

He said that Bowie began the email he told him about his cancer diagnosis with: ‘I’ve got some good news, I’ve got some bad news.’

The bad news was that he had ‘the big C’.

But Oldman said Bowie told him the good news was ‘I got my cheekbones back’.

In February, the singer’s only daughter Alexandria, 23, whose mother is Bowie’s widow, the supermodel Iman, 68, described the anguish she felt after losing her father.

‘I confused living life with surviving life’s days by filling my body’s bottomless void, drowning myself in toxins and poison,’ she recalled.

‘I involved myself in things I never expected to be part of. Situating myself in situations that contributed to the already crumbling foundation of my family eventually led to lonely isolation.

‘I’ve hurt the ones I loved most with hateful words to make them feel at least a little bit of the pain I went through every day.

‘It felt easier to label myself as a psychopath, rather than to have admitted to the lack of introspection in an effort to justify my harmful actions.

‘Growing to be such a violent and angry individual was unbelievably contradictory to the sweet and gentle little girl I used to be.’
