The Sun’s Who Cares Wins awards honours those across the health and social care sector who go above and beyond for their patients or causes.

The event has returned to Channel 4 with Davina McCall again hosting the awards and the star-studded, red-carpet ceremony taking place in London.

Channel 4 has partnered with The Sun and NHS Charities Together to televise the awards ceremony for the third year running.

The awards were originally set up in 2017 as a celebration of the NHS and healthcare healthcare professionals, key workers and ordinary people who care for us.

Davina McCall said: ‘I’m enormously proud to host these awards, which recognise some of the most amazing people on the planet. It’s a privilege to meet these everyday heroes and celebrate their truly inspirational stories.’

Commissioning editor for Channel 4 Tom Beck said: ‘We’re thrilled to be broadcasting The Sun’s Who Cares Win awards for the second year, bringing the amazing and inspiring stories of the nominees and winners to Channel 4 viewers.’

This year’s awards were launched back in June by boxing legend Anthony Joshua as one of the many celebrations to mark the NHS turning 75.

The sportsman urged people to get nominating as he said: ‘It’s my pleasure to launch this year’s awards. It was truly humbling at last year’s ceremony to hear the incredible stories of heroism that play out across the UK.

‘I was blown away by the people I met. To me, they are the real stars. Our health heroes are true fighters. The past few years have been incredibly hard for those working on the frontline. They’ve steered us through the coronavirus pandemic while continuing to try to maintain all other services.

‘Our NHS is made up of people from all different backgrounds who come together to selflessly help others. They put the great into Great Britain. They don’t do it for the money or for the thanks. They are not the sort to put themselves in the spotlight, so this is why The Sun needs you to nominate your healthcare hero.’
