A man who attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old girl while she played in the front yard of her California home is still on the loose with surveillance footage capturing the terrifying moment.
The suspect can be seen walking down the street with a peculiar gait before stopping on the driveway of Kassidy Angodung’s home in Murrieta in southwestern Riverside at around 8pm Sunday.
The man is heard saying to Kassidy, ‘Hey, what shirt is that,’ before he lunges at the girl in an apparent effort to kidnap the child.
Kassidy’s father Michael Angodung said he had been chilled by the incident which had shattered his perception of their ‘very kid-friendly, family neighborhood.’
He told KTLA 5 that it had been a normal Sunday evening for his family, but is now warning parents to stay vigilant. ‘I let my guard down pretty much,’ he said.

‘It was just unexpected on a Sunday night. My daughter loves playing volleyball. So, she asked me, “Dad, can we play outside?” and (I said), “Sure. I’ll give you 10 minutes because I’ve got to back and do some chores,”‘ Angodung said.
The father told how he had been playing in the front yard with Kassidy and left her side for a moment to get some water from inside.
He said he’d noticed the man walking down the street but didn’t think anything of it.
‘You couldn’t mistake his walk. He had a funny walk,’ he said.
Not even a minute after he entered his home, he said his daughter came running in to find him.
‘Then she rushes all the way inside the garage, saying, ‘Dad, dad, there’s a guy trying to kidnap me!’ And I’m like, ‘Quit playing, what do you mean trying to kidnap you?’
Neighbor’s security cameras show the man walking along the sidewalk in a blue cap and flip flops while another angle shows the moment the man attempts to grab Kassidy.
The man can be heard saying, ‘Hey, what is that shirt? Let me see that shirt’ before lunging quickly towards the young girl.

‘It kind of pierces your veil of security. I always think, ‘Hey, this is a very kid-friendly, family neighborhood,’ Angodung said.
The man, without faltering, then continued down the street and hasn’t been seen since. Angodung immediately called Riverside County police.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department canvassed the neighborhood, going door-to-door, asking neighbors for surveillance video, and asking whether they saw anything.
‘This is a very, very quiet neighborhood. You see kids outside always playing,’ Murrieta resident Jessica Vicencio told KTLA. ‘So, it is a little nerve-wracking.’
Another Murrieta resident, Rob Potts, said he wishes he could have done something to help.

Angodung that he’s thankful his daughter wasn’t physically harmed but believes the encounter has had a traumatic impact on her
‘It makes me angry. I’ve got four kids and I never think it’s going to happen in an area like this,’ he said. ‘I wish I would’ve been outside to do something.’
Angodung told NBC Los Angeles that he’s thankful his daughter wasn’t physically harmed but believes the encounter has had a traumatic impact on her.
He told the outlet that she has had trouble sleeping and doesn’t want to walk or bike to school anymore.
‘I would just say to parents, it’s never too early or too late to talk to your kids about the dangers of our world right now,’ he said.
