A popular crime documentary has laid bare the chilling true story of a beloved teacher who vanished from her ‘blood-splattered’ bedroom before her body was found dumped by a lake.

Manuela Allen, 49, disappeared overnight from the family home in Olney, Texas, in 2019 – with a devastating scene left behind.

There was a large pool of blood on the carpet with further spatters across the pillows, walls and doors as well as bloody streaks on the floor leading out of the house.

The mother-of-four’s body was found just hours later wrapped in bedsheets and dumped near a lake – having been stabbed 47 times, strangled and shot in the face.

The culprit would later be unmasked as her eldest daughter’s ex-boyfriend Julius Mullins.

Here, FEMAIL has revealed the disturbing realities after an episode of NBC’s Dateline explored the case.

Manuela had grown up in Bavarian village in southern Germany but came to the United States to study English in college – where she met Peter.

He said: ‘My wife was strikingly gorgeous, just beautiful… God graced me. God blessed me.’

Their love was enough to persuade Manuela to stay and she ended up becoming a teacher for German and English before encouraging Peter to teach Math.

And the couple appeared to have the perfect life.

But things took a twisted turn on July 7, 2019, just a few days after the family had returned from visiting relatives in Europe.

Manuela’s 15-year-old daughter Kiara woke up at around 9am and went to check on her mom.

She found that the bedroom door was locked but the teenager was able to gain access to the room through a second door located in the garage.

But, upon entering, Kiara made a gruesome discovery.

The bedsheets themselves were missing and there were bloody streaks on the ground leading out of the bedroom through to the laundry room and into the garage area beyond.

Manuela was nowhere to be found and her car was missing but there was also no sign of forced entry.

Her husband Peter, who had slept on the couch that night because he had a drink, said that his ‘mind went blank,’ adding: ‘I had no idea what could have possibly occurred.’

The military veteran reasoned that his wife could have somehow injured herself and driven to the hospital – but she had not checked into the nearby emergency room.

Police arrived at the scene a short time later and were soon of the belief that there had been a struggle which ended with a body being dragged outside.

Peter, Kiara and the couple’s son Darian – who had all been in the house at the time – were interviewed but none reported hearing anything suspicious that night.

During police interview, investigators asked Peter about the state of his relationship with Manuela who he described as an ‘old-school Roman Catholic’ and went to church every Sunday.

He said: ‘I’m a man so I’m a dog. I look but don’t touch. I’m married.’

Asked about whether his kids could have been involved, Peter said: ‘My children would never touch my wife.

‘My wife – I know this doesn’t sound right – but she is now built like a tank. She could beat the sh*t out of somebody… if someone came in, she would put up one hell of a fight.’

Detectives set out to track Manuela down and just hours later stumbled on a bizarre scene near Lake Cooper – a recreational area a few miles away.

Her damaged white SUV had been abandoned and had a smear mark, which appeared to be blood, along the side.

Tragically, not far from the vehicle, authorities found Manuela’s body wrapped in blood-soaked sheets and dumped near the tree line before being partially covered with foliage.

She had defensive wounds on her hands, had been stabbed 47 times, strangled and shot once in the face.

There was a footprint left in the mud nearby and a bicycle track leading away from the scene.

Suspicion soon fell on Peter, who was a collector of guns, but police eventually stumbled onto another suspect.

Friends had described Manuela as ‘accepting of all people… and you get one kid that was on the outside, she would bring them in and help them succeed, whatever they needed.’

And this included 18-year-old daughter Melanie’s ex-boyfriend, Julius Mullins, who was a talented football player who struggled at school and at home because he was ‘super hyper’ and had limited focus.

Mullins, who had attended the school that Manuela taught at, had undergone mental health treatment but, after getting into trouble in middle school, spent time in juvenile detention.

He had dated Melanie for about a year before the relationship came crashing down.

Mullins’ own father described it as an intense first love, adding that the athlete was ‘too caught up in the relationship.’

Friends said that the teen was deeply impacted by the split as he began drinking, smoking marijuana and skipping school in the aftermath.

Mullins had reportedly been begging Melanie to take him back and, following Manuela’s death, he was eventually brought in for questioning.

During interview, the teen said: ‘[Manuela] was probably one of the people that’s actually helped me the most.

‘She was basically like kind of my other mom because she helped me out with stuff. She helped me get my sh*t together. She was a really nice lady.’

But his story rapidly began to fall apart.

Mullins’ bicycle was collected as well as imprints from his shoes – both of which matched the prints left at the scene.

Confronted with the evidence, he eventually unraveled, confessing: ‘I killed my f***ing ex’s mom, dude.’

He said he arrived at 2am and gained access through the garage window before launching the frenzied knife attack.

‘She screamed a lot. She got up. I slammed her to the ground when she went for the door. I walked into the kitchen – I went in there and grabbed the keys.’

Mullins admitted bundling her body into the car and driving her out to the lake.

Asked how he got her to the final spot, he said: ‘I had to drag her…. Put a blanket underneath her and carried the blanket.’

He said he fired a gun at Manuela at the lake, after she was already dead, but added: ‘I don’t even know if I hit her or not, I just pulled the trigger and ran.’

Mullins then revealed how he covered her up with ‘spiky plants.’

He was formerly charged and later pleaded guilty to Manuela’s murder without having to go to trial.

Mullins was sentenced to 55 years in prison and has since tried to explain his crime as a ‘burglary gone bad’ rather than the ‘twisted revenge’ plot that many still believe was his motivation in a bid to get back at Melanie.

He told Dateline: ‘I got scared when I went into their house. It wasn’t with the intent to hurt anybody. He had guns and that’s what I was going to get…

‘I rode on my bike and I went through the garage window then I stared looking for guns. I found one in the bedroom in the cabinet – by the time that I had gotten it out, I had jogged the desk a little bit and I had woken up Miss Allen.

‘She sees me and I was kind of frozen for a minute. I saw a butterfly knife on the dresser and I got scared and I jumped on top of her and started stabbing her.’

Mullins concluded: ‘I just made the wrong choice… There’s no amount of apology that can change or bring her back. She did not deserve what I did to her and I’m sorry that I ripped [the] family apart.

‘I would give my live to bring her back.’
