Matthew McConaughey got emotional while talking about his family at a Live Talk event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 53-year-old actor revealed that he and his wife, Camila Alves, have not spent more than nine days apart in the entirety of their marriage since they tied the knot in 2012.

While talking to Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt about his debut children’s picture book Just Because, he also delved into his successful career and family life.

The Interstellar star — who was blown away when he inspected his ‘beautiful’ Madame Tussauds waxwork in New York City for the first time — also said he hoped their three children would describe him as their ‘best friend’ when they grow older.

McConaughey and the Brazilian model, 41, are parents to Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.

During the one-hour interview, he sported casual attire and gushed about the family he shares with his wife.

The beginning of the couple’s love story began when they met in a West Hollywood nightclub in 2006.

The Oscar winner told People in 2018 before revealing that before he met her, he wasn’t sure he would ever find ‘unconditional love’.

‘I mean, the clock was ticking,’ he recalled. ‘I was about to be 40 and my plan was to be married and have kids by that age.’

‘But I didn’t want to play the game of starting to feel anxious because, with too much anxiety, you can’t find a mate,’ he continued. ‘And then you make a hasty decision.’

‘I knew men who had made hasty decisions and women who had done the same thing. But at that point, I wasn’t hunting,’ he added.

‘And then this amazing woman walked across my field of vision and I thought, “Who is that?” And it was Camila.’

‘We have a love that we never question,’ he said.

Three days after the pair met, they had their first official date.

In 2008, they welcomed their first son Levi. Two years later, they welcomed their daughter Vida.

In 2011, McConaughey proposed. The pair tied the knot after a six-month engagement and six years together at their home in Austin, Texas in June 2012.

Later that year, they welcomed their third baby together.

Earlier this month, the Dallas Buyers Club alum published a children’s book composed of inspirational lessons and illustrated by Renée Kurilla.

The day before, an article was published by The New York Times in which he spoke about how he came about the idea to create this book and what his own children think about it.

‘They dig it,’ he told the outlet. ‘My daughter’s very visual. My eldest really gets it and thinks it’s really cool.

‘My youngest is still letting me know what he likes,’ he continued. ‘He sits back a little more and lets me know later.’

He also added that his mother is a fan of his book as well as all the lessons were ones she instilled in him.

‘My mom digs it,’ he explained. ‘She was a teacher. She’s like, “Yeah, this is all the stuff I taught you, Matthew”.’
