A Chicago woman who struggled to get pregnant has told how she feared she had miscarried after she was carjacked at gun point in the crime ridden Dem-led city.

The West Town resident begged Mayor Brandon Johnson to do more to curb the rampant violence in her neighborhood, which saw crime rocket by 40 per cent in a year.

The mom appeared alongside Alderman Gilbert Vegas at a rally on Wednesday to demand more cops in the area.

She struggled to maintain her composure as she told how she had been returning from the school run on December 12 when four men pulled up alongside her toting a semi-automatic weapon and a handgun.

She told CBS Chicago: ‘I was four months pregnant at the time and I was sure the trauma of that day ended my long-awaited pregnancy. Thankfully, that was not the case.’

‘As the days and weeks went on, all I could think about was, what if I had my children in the car that day?’

Vegas said crime has spiraled in the district since the closure of the Wood Street police station a decade ago.

In the last year, motor vehicle thefts have jumped by a staggering 102 per cent, from 420 to 848. Robberies have increased by 61 per cent, from 308 to 497 reports.

Meanwhile theft and burglary are also up by 20 and 13 per cent respectively.

The pleas come just months after shocking footage emerged showing the moment a woman was surrounded by a gang at gunpoint who then beat her with a weapon before robbing her.

The liberal city is in the grip of a crimewave that has left many residents fearing for their lives.

Just days ago, 15 people left with horrific injuries after being shot during a Halloween party rampage on the city’s west side.

Mayor Johnson has struggled to get a grip on the crisis following his predecessor Lori Lightfoot’s disastrous reign, which saw murder rates soar to their highest ever in 2021.

Surging crime had already forced the likes of companies like Boeing and Caterpillar to move their headquarters elsewhere under Lightfoot’s tenure.

Last September, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinksi said the fast food giant was facing challenges to recruit workers for its HQ in Chicago.

Tyson Foods announced that it would move all of its corporate teams to its headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas.

The progressive leader previously stated that defunding the police was a political goal of his, but has since performed a spectacular U-turn on his comments since taking the helm.

However, his proposed budget this year keeps police spending relatively flat with just a 2.9 per cent increase, while allowing for an increase to his salary which will see him paid $221,052.
