A couple has revealed their son is furious with them after they made changes to their wills, leaving him their $3 million family home – which he can’t sell.

A concerned mother, who goes by the username Jazzlike_Fig2361, has taken to the Am I The A**hole subreddit, sharing that her and her husband’s will have caused a strain in their family.

‘AITA for leaving only the house to one child?’ she began the post.

The parents originally wanted to leave the younger son their $3 million property, but after he showed disinterest they went back to the drawing board and opted to leave the home to their older child.

They then revised the will to give him all the financial assets instead and left their older son the house – but there’s a catch.

She later edited the post to reveal that the home cannot be sold due to its previous owners making a deal with the town.

After finding out about the amendment, she explained that their older son then threatened that he would not take care of his parents when they became elderly.

The mother also revealed that the older son was married, but didn’t want children and lived in the same state as his parents.

Meanwhile the younger one is married as well, but has two young children and lives eight hours away.

The house is ‘a couple hundreds years old’ and has been owned by the family for generations.

It features hundreds of acres of land and its appraisal priced it at $3 million – which the mom pointed out is worth about one million dollars more than the ‘investments and cash’ they are going to leave their other child.

A second commentator was quick to call out the parents, writing: 'You are trying to make your children take on a burden as the last thing you do before death. That is soooooo messed up'

What sparked the will change was the younger son’s reaction to the news he was getting the house.

The mother said he ‘winced’ when she made the reveal during a visit.

He told them he didn’t want ‘anything to do’ with the house and had no plans to move back to the area.

The mother was ‘disappointed’ to learn that he felt that way since the plan was to ‘split all assets evenly including the house’ so that it could ‘continue to be the meeting place’ for future generations.

The couple spoke and chose to revise their will. They called the sons to inform them that they have decided to give the house to the older son instead, and the bank accounts and investments would be taken on by the younger one.

She argued that the two can ‘split the physical items’ and that the house was ‘worth more’ since the main financial assets come out to be $2 million.

The older son said that he can’t move into the house since he and his wife live five hours away.

Although the mother said someone could be hired to maintain the property, the son knew that would negatively affect his finances and their property tax would increase.

The mother called the son ‘a brat’ since his younger sibling located further away and they wanted to ‘be fair’ to his brother.

According to her account, he confessed that he felt his parents ‘favor his brother’ and he threatened that he would ‘keep that in mind when elderly care comes up and he’s the one nearby.’

The call ended very tensely, the mother added. Contrary to the older one, the younger son was ‘pleased.’

The mother went on to add an edit to the post that would add more strain to the loaded question she posted on the subreddit.

Another person was quick to provide a solution, adding: 'You can leave it to me. I will move in and love it forever. I'll even change my last name and you can adopt me'

She let users know that the ‘house cannot be sold’ by anyone because its previous owners ‘made a deal with the town to pay less in property taxes in exchange for the surrounding acreage being public trails.’

‘It also had a provision that the house cannot be sold publicly. If they no longer wanted the property the town will buy it for land value,’ the mother added.

Prior to the edit being made users were suggesting that the son could sell the house, but afterwards the whole conversation changed online and the parents faced more intense criticism in the comments.

One user called out the parents aggressively: ‘YTA for trying to manipulate your offspring to live in a house they do not want in an area they don’t want to be in.

‘The house is not worth three million, because it can never be sold so take it off the table and split the other assets evenly between them.

‘Then when the town takes the house for its land value, they can also split that money. You should not ask your kids to maintain this home after you are gone.’

A second commenter was quick to call out the parents, writing: ‘You are trying to make your children take on a burden as the last thing you do before death. That is soooooo messed up.’

Someone else was quick to jump into the heated conversation with a humorous solution, writing: ‘You can leave it to me. I will move in and love it forever. I’ll even change my last name and you can adopt me.’
