Urinary tract infection

(UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system commonly caused by a bacterium (These are organisms that are too small to be seen without a microscope, which overcomes the body’s defenses in the urinary tract. They can affect the kidneys, bladder, and the tubes that run between them.

The Urinary tract infection are one of the most common types of infection existing. Statistically, 8.1 million infected people visit a doctor every year.

Sub division of Urinary Tract

It (Urinary Tract) can be divided into the upper urinary tract and the lower urinary tract.

Upper urinary tract consists of the kidneys and the ureters that can be affected by UTI. These can be potentially life threatening if bacteria move from the infected kidney into the blood. This condition, called urosepsis, can cause dangerously low blood pressure, shock, and death.

Lower urinary tract consists of the bladder and the urethra.

Urinary Tract Information Symptoms

Typical symptoms of lower tract UTI include:

  • burning with urination
  • increased frequency of urination without passing much urine
  • increased urgency of urination
  • bloody urine
  • cloudy urine
  • urine that looks like cola or tea
  • urine that has a strong odor
  • pelvic pain in women
  • rectal pain in men

Symptoms of upper tract UTI include:

  • pain and tenderness in the upper back and sides
  • chills
  • fever
  • nausea
  • vomiting

Women who are more sexually active are the greatest victims of Urinary tract infection or the infection of bladder or the kidneys. However, men also suffer from this infection but mostly after the age of 50.

What you should do

10. Maintain your follow up visits regularly to cure the infection or else the lingering infection could even damage the kidneys.
