McDonald’s is asking fast food fans to pick their favourites from the menu when they reopen.

The dining giant closed its 1350 branches across the UK on Monday when Boris Johnson announced a UK-wide lockdown, forcing all restaurants and cafes to shut their doors for all but takeaway.

But in an email to its customers today the chain told its fans to keep an eye on its social media channels where it will be asking them to vote on their favourite dishes.

‘Since our closure on Monday night, we have seen hundreds of messages from people telling us what they already miss from McDonald’s.

‘We will keep in touch with our fans and followers as we start preparing our menu for reopening’, they said.

In the week since the chain closed their doors, fans have taking to the kitchen to whip up some of the chain’s most famous meals at home, and sharing their attempts on the @Homemade_McDonalds Instagram account.

A stream of attempts at making the brand’s famous Big Mac burger, as well as the chain’s ‘burger sauce’, have delighted the page’s 5,000 followers,

Food influencer Leanne Loves Cooking, submitted a photograph of her Big Mac, along with a lengthy explanation of how she made the burger.

She revealed she’d crafted the meaty patty by mixing together a pack of minced beef with salt and pepper before moulding it into the shape of the classic burger.

It comes as the coronavirus outbreak in the UK looks to be finally slowing down after the daily death toll dropped for the second day in a row, with 180 new fatalities recorded overnight.

As of this afternoon a total of 1,408 people in Britain have died from coronavirus. England recorded 159 new deaths in the last 24 hours, while Wales reported 14, Scotland six and Northern Ireland one.

It marks the first time the daily increase in deaths has fallen for two days straight, dropping from 209 on Sunday and 260 on Saturday – in what was Britain’s darkest day in the crisis yet.
