After overhearing his wife making fun of his manhood during the breakdown of their marriage, and just as he was re-entering the dating scene to meet someone new, Paul had a crisis of confidence.

The 39-year-old from Texas had flirted with the idea of penis enlargement surgery but was put off by the irreversible nature. Then he stumbled upon ‘penis filler’ procedures, which, like lip filler, promise to be totally reversible because they involve injecting a dissolvable gel.

Fellow Texan Jordan Tunnell, 33, was equally excited to overhear someone talking about the procedure at a friend’s gathering – he had been insecure about his penis size for years after comparing himself to his peers in high school.

He told DailyMail.com: ‘Seeing all the other guys in the football locker room and seeing what they were packing versus what I was packing and knowing that I wasn’t on par with the other guys.’

But while the dermal filler is widely used in areas of the face, evidence of its use in penile girth enhancement is limited.

Last month, a German man died from sepsis after silicone oil from a penis enlargement jab ended up in his bloodstream.

It comes amid the growing trend of men getting cosmetic surgeries, including BBLs, lipo and ab implants.

Dallas-based cosmetic clinic PhalloFILL is one of the companies leading the way when it comes to penis filler treatments.

The procedure uses hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in our skin that has been used for years to give women plump lips – to pad out the penis’ girth.

The filler is FDA-cleared for use in the lips but not in the penis, but providers use it off-label.

During the 30-minute treatment, patients are numbed with shots of local anesthetic, and then dermal filler is injected underneath the penis’s top layer of skin. There is typically some bruising and swelling right after the procedure.

The company’s CEO William Moore, 49, suggests men get an extra 0.5-1.5 inches to maintain a ‘natural’ look, which typically takes four sessions to achieve and can last months, if not years, before dissolving.

Mr Moore’s patients usually spend between $6,000 and $12,000. The average number of syringes, 20, costs $9,500.

The procedure can also be reversed with a dissolving injection.

But there is limited official research into penis fillers and the risks involved. If the filler is injected into or around an artery, it can cause the tissue to die.

And the first week after enlargement injections, there is also the risk of filler migration, where the filler moves from the original injection site, resulting in an irregular shape or feel.

If the filler is not applied correctly, it can harden and leave permanent disfigurement, or the injection sites may get infected.

PhalloFILL opened its first clinic in Dallas in 2021 and performed 800 treatments in its first year.

Now with 13 locations across the US, providers have already surpassed over 900 treatments this year and anticipate more than 2,500 treatments by the end of 2023.

Paul, who only wanted to give his first name, came across an anti-aging clinic in Texas advertising penile fillers in May 2022. He had to make a down payment of $2,500 for an initial consultation.

He told DailyMail.com: ‘I knew nothing about the procedure other than what was posted online… but I wanted it so badly.’

‘I shouldn’t have [paid the money], but it’s one of those things, it’s just an emotional thing for guys where it’s like, if you have that sliver of hope, if it cost me $2,500 to get something that could potentially be good, I was willing to risk the money.’

Paul paid the deposit and went to the clinic. He was hoping for a natural girth enhancement that ‘nobody would ever be able to tell was there’, but instead, he ended up with a ‘big, squishy, lumpy disaster.’

‘It basically looked like I had a pencil on either side [of my penis], where they had just inserted this big, long, straight tube of filler. It was so obvious and unnatural looking,’ he said.

‘It made me very depressed. I was like, what have I done? I’ve ruined something that I should not have messed with.’

After more Google searches, he found PhalloFILL, who were able to correct Paul’s botched penis.

He said: ‘Immediately, my mindset, my mood and my whole attitude changed. It was night and day.’

He added: ‘It’s made a world of difference in my sex life… I have a girlfriend now who is very, very, very happy with it.

‘There’s been a couple of different women I’ve been with and the feedback has all been awesome. Not solicited feedback, but unsolicited… they have no idea [my penis is enhanced].’

Mr Tunnell, a structural engineer from Dallas, said: ‘This is something that’s been bothering me ever since I was in high school football aged 13, and saw the other guys that were a lot more endowed than I was. It gets in your head at an early age and goes with you into adulthood…

‘It’s always something in the back of your mind when you start getting intimate with somebody and you start to stress about it, and have anxiety about it. You’re hoping you’re able to satisfy your partner.’

‘I’ve had some encounters where it seemed like my partner was unsatisfied,’ he added.

He had tried a penis pump but it didn’t work.

Making his penis bigger is ‘something I’ve always been wanting to do,’ he said. ‘I honestly never thought this technology would be available in my lifetime.’

Two years ago at a friend’s house, he overheard Mr Moore talking about the procedure.

‘I burst with excitement,’ he said. In the fall of 2021, he went through with the procedure.

Mr Tunnell said: ‘I was hoping for a shower — I shrink a lot. The procedure made me not shrink, which is a huge plus for me. My sensitivity actually increased, so that was a huge plus for me as well. My confidence went through the roof. I haven’t had any issues with romantic partners. They’re all very satisfied.’

Mr Tunnell only told one friend before the procedure, but since he had it done, he has told lots more and even convinced a few to get it done themselves.

He is also open about his enhanced penis with his partners. ‘They were shocked because they can’t tell,’ he said.

Mr Moore, who has performed over 2,000 procedures on patients, hails the company’s unique injection technique and post-op care as the reason for their success.

Originally from Alabama but now living in Dallas, Texas, Mr Moore has also had penis filler himself.

‘I always felt like I wanted to have a larger penis,’ he said.

Mr Moore had other surgeries on his penis in the past, including fat grafting and the ligament suspensory surgery, which he said were ‘unsuccessful’.

The reasons for people wanting penis filler vary. Mr Moore said a fair amount of men get it because their wives have had multiple children, which ‘makes sex different for the man and the woman’.

Then there are men who have always perceived themselves as having a small penis.

Mr Moore said: ‘When you wake up in the morning and you look in the mirror, and the first thing that you see as a small penis, you start your day off bad.

He added: ‘We’ve had people tell us they have gotten job promotions. Somebody told me he opened a new company — he told me it was big dick attitude. He said men who have bigger penises are more confident and they get more things done. Now that I have a larger penis, I’m more productive.’

Mr Moore has had celebrity clients, and even once had a mother ring up inquiring for her husband and son.
