Intermittent fasting, a popular choice, is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating which can be done on a daily basis. For example, a person may fast for 14 hours then eat during a 10 hour window.

So what are the benefits?

One of the most notable benefits of fasting is improved blood sugar control. Good blood sugar control can help prevent diabetes – a condition which causes a person’s blood sugar levels to become too high and can lead to serious health complications such as cardiovascular disease.

A study involving 10 people with type 2 diabetes showed short-term intermittent fasting significantly decreased blood sugar levels.

Another review found intermittent fasting and alternate-day fasting were as effective as limiting calorie intake at reducing insulin resistance.
