Paula Abdul has opened up about her attention-grabbing tap-dancing performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com.

The pop icon and dancer, 60, set social media alight when she performed an energetic skit Of her hit Straight Up aboard a float while dressed in a sequin catsuit in November 2022.

The star’s performance- in which she was accused of lip-syncing and ‘fake tap-dancing’- was met with mixed social media reaction with some blasting the ‘budget performance’.

Others wrote: ‘Something is a little out of sync here though…come on. Not that hard to figure out!, ‘She’s faking everything about this.’

Another wrote: ‘Wow lip syncing AND toe syncing at the same time. #Talented.’

Paula said: ‘That was a bucket list moment for me. Since I was a little girl, I used to watch, I mean I’ve always watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. 

‘I used to be the kid that my parents would be say, “Paula, come out of your room, the parade’s over.” 

‘I’d be hanging over my window sill ’cause I was determined for sure that they were going to come march around my street. So I stayed hours out there. That was really fun, and then being able to do my Las Vegas residencies.’

The iconic choreographer also waxed lyrical about the powerful effects dancing has on the ‘psyche of every human being’ and how she stays in great shape at 60.

The star said: ‘I’ll always be doing that. I always say my home away from home is a dance studio. I’m just grateful I have it in my life for all these years… it’s not like exercising, it’s just pure joy.

‘It changes the spirit and the psyche of every human being and it changes your life for the rest of your life. I love watching people that always are afraid to dance start dancing and then they start training a little bit, and it’s like, where has this been all my life?’

The star also revealed she was ‘gearing up doing some tour dates’ as she opened up about future plans.

Abdul famously kicked off her career, at age 18, as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers and she was promoted to head choreographer before The Jacksons discovered her.

The Emmy-winning choreographer went on to craft dances for Janet Jackson’s music videos for What Have You Done for Me Lately, Nasty, and Control before launching her own singing career.

Abdul’s debut studio album, Forever Your Girl (1988), would become the most successful debut album in history at the time of its release, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

It also set a record for the most singles from a debut album  to reach number one with four; Straight Up, Forever Your Girl, Cold Hearted, and Opposites Attract.

She would later experience a career resurgence when she became a job on American Idol in 2002 – a role she would hold onto until 2009.
