Joanne Froggatt cut a stylish appearance as she arrived at Virgin Radio studios on Saturday.

The actress, 43, donned an all black ensemble as she opted for a long black dress for her appearance on Graham Norton‘s show.

Pairing the dress with a smart black button up coat, the star wrapped the jacket around her shoulders as she beamed in snaps.

The Downton Abbey star completed the look with some chic black gold heeled ankle boots and a Gucci black belt.

Her appearance comes after it was announced earlier this week that Downton Abbey will be returning to screens.

However, Joanne, who played Anna Bates in the periodical drama, didn’t mention the BBC’s hit show return as she spoke about her latest role in ITV drama Breathtaking.

The drama, in which she plays an NHS doctor in the pandemic, is based on the memoir of NHS doctor Rachel Clarke and documents what it was really like working in the NHS during Covid.

Co-written by Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio and former doctor Prasanna Puwanarajah, the three-part drama begins in March 2020 as the world comes to terms with the spread of a virus that to date has claimed 230,000 lives in the UK.

As the series progresses it takes in Covid deniers and the second wave of the virus in the winter of 2020, as well as the impact on the NHS staff who spent months on the front line.

Joanne’s character, Dr Abbey Henderson, an acute medicine consultant and mother-of-two, works at a city hospital in England and is quicker than most to realise that the NHS – and the UK in general – is ill-prepared for what’s about to hit.

Meanwhile filming has secretly started on a new series of Downton Abbey, MailOnline exclusively revealed this week.

The period drama – the last episode of which was aired a little over eight years ago – is making a surprise comeback in a seventh series.

Bosses hoped to be able to bring back Joanne alongside some of the other big name actors such as Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, and Elizabeth McGovern who appeared in the previous six seasons and two movie spin-offs.

While it is not known if all of them have signed up, chiefs are said to be ‘thrilled’ with their casting.

The return of the show, which was filmed at Highclere Castle in Hampshire and which covered the many societal changes and world events between 1912 and 1928, is expected to be on screen at the end of the year.

It is understood that it will be on ITV, where it was broadcast from 2010 until 2015.

Old episodes of Downton are well watched on the channel’s streaming platform ITVX so TV insiders expect they will do what they can to stop it going to rivals such as Netflix or Amazon.

A source close to the project told the Mail: ‘Filming has been going on for a few weeks now, it is all very, very secret. There are people working on it who have never seen secrecy like it.

‘Those working on the set have been made to sign non-disclosure agreements so that they don’t give the game away but there is a lot of excitement at the return of Downton.

‘It was such a huge success before and there are so many more stories to be told, it seemed such a shame not to be able to make more of it but they’ve made it happen.’

Breathtaking airs on ITV1 Monday-Wednesday at 9pm.
