Royal aides have spoken out to condemn the ‘madness of social media’ as conspiracy theories continue to circulate about the Princess of Wales‘s health.

Although officials have refused to give any further updates on Kate Middleton’s health due to medical privacy, royal aids have insisted she is ‘doing well’.

Following abdominal surgery, Kate has remained out of the public eye for two months as she recovers.

But frenzied speculation began to circulate online shortly after Prince William pulled out of the service for the late King Constantine of Greece, who died last January, while his father King Charles was also absent as his cancer treatment continues.

The Prince of Wales had not been seen since the Bafta awards in London earlier this month until he visited the Western Marble Arch Synagogue in central London. The Princess of Wales was last seen on Christmas at Sandringham.

However social media users came up with a host of wild theories about Kate’s absence, with speculation that the Princess may be in a coma, in the process of being cloned, having ‘Brazilian butt lift’ work done or she had a bad haircut and is in hiding until it grows out.

The Sun reported that royal aides said: ‘We were really clear from the start we weren’t going to provide a running commentary on the Princess of Wales’s health and only provide significant updates.

‘Obviously, we’ve seen the madness of social media and that is not going to change our strategy.

‘There has been much on social media but the Princess has a right to privacy and asks the public to respect that.’

A previous Kensington Palace statement read: ‘The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.

‘She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.

‘Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.

‘The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.’

The family’s health woes have laid bare the realities of a stripped-down monarchy. Since the start of the year there has been a sudden shortage of frontline royals after Charles and Kate both went into hospital around the same time in January.

It left the Prince of Wales taking on more of the burden of public duties while at the same time supporting Kate and taking care of his three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Charles was admitted for surgery for a benign prostate condition last month, but subsequently diagnosed with an unrelated cancer.

The monarch has withdrawn from public-facing duties while he undergoes treatment. Kate underwent abdominal surgery at the same time and is currently recuperating, following a two-week hospital stay.

The Prince of Wales poured a pint and downed a whisky with Hollywood star Rob McElhenney at a pub in Wrexham today while his wife Kate continues to recover from surgery at home – with Kensington Palace insisting she is still ‘doing well’.

Prince William travelled to The Turf pub next to Wrexham AFC – the world’s oldest pub at a sports stadium, which featured in the Disney+ ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series – as part of a visit to mark St David’s Day.

He met staff, charity workers and locals to learn about the venue – before visiting the pitch at the team’s Racecouse Ground to hear accounts of the club’s rise since the 2021 takeover by McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds , and meet staff and players.

As he poured the pint, William said: ‘Still got a horrible head on it, but there you go. This is why I don’t work behind the bar.’ He also told McElhenney that he ‘loves’ cider.

Reynolds was in New York today and could not be present while he edits the next Deadpool film, but MailOnline understands he hopes to meet William later this year.

McElhenney told William that Reynolds had wanted to be there today, but the Prince: ‘Because Ryan’s not here you can tell him I think Hugh Jackman is funnier.’

The Prince also met with Welsh speakers from Patagonia – and inside the stadium, he was presented with a Wrexham AFC shirt by footballers Ben Tozer and Luke Young.

On the road outside the pub, a three-year-old girl called Florence Boyle presented William with a daffodil and blew him a kiss, before the Prince thanked her with a high five. They then posed for a photo with her mother Katie, 35, and father David, 37.

William then went on to spend time with pupils at All Saints’ Primary School to see their traditional ways of marking the day, which celebrates the patron saint of Wales.

The pupils gave him Welsh dragon toys for his three children – and also flowers for Kate. He told them: ‘I’ll pass them onto Catherine as well, thank you very much.’

The children also took part in traditional Welsh folk dancing called Dawnsio Gwerin and baked Bara Brith, a Welsh tea bread flavoured with dried fruits and spices.
